Meeting students and teachers from Gymnasiet Lärkan, Helsinki, UNESCO ASPnet school, 28.10.2025
On Tuesday, 28 October, class 5H attended a meeting in the Aula Magna of the Liceo Machiavelli’s Piazza Indipendenza campus to engage with a group of Finnish peers from a school belonging to the UNESCO ASPnet network.
The meeting brought together European students aged 17 to 19 from Liceo Machiavelli and Gymnasiet Lärkan for a structured exchange around key UNESCO strategic priorities: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities, and building inclusive, just, and peaceful societies while fostering freedom of expression, cultural diversity, and global citizenship education.
Participants had the opportunity to discuss global citizenship topics, including Peace Education, Sustainability, and Global Citizenship.
During the session, Ms Fasanelli showed students and teachers the official Ages of Globalization website, which is regularly used for Civic Education in different classes at the school, and in particular the video by Prof. Jeffrey Sachs titled “Class 6 Chapter 5 – Finding Peace and Cooperation in a Deeply Divided World” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fEE33jFD0A). The students’ reflections on the video led to an international group activity called “Our Common Rights – Our Common Voice”, during which students created a joint Human Rights Statement beginning with: “As young people from Finland and Italy, we believe that…”, on which the various groups then collaborated and discussed.
This institutional activity, proposed by the school as part of educational orientation, allowed students to deepen their understanding of education as a tool for peace, sustainability, and global citizenship; practice foreign language communication and relational skills in multicultural contexts; develop autonomy, responsibility, and critical thinking, reflecting on shared values of the 2030 Agenda; and gain awareness of their own aspirations regarding study paths and careers related to international cooperation, human rights, and sustainability. The working language of the activity was English.
Martedì 28 ottobre la classe 5H ha partecipato a un incontro nell’Aula Magna del campus di Piazza Indipendenza del Liceo Machiavelli per confrontarsi con un gruppo di coetanei finlandesi provenienti da una scuola appartenente alla rete UNESCO ASPnet.
L’incontro ha riunito studenti europei di età compresa tra i 17 e i 19 anni del Liceo Machiavelli e del Gymnasiet Lärkan per uno scambio strutturato sui principali obiettivi strategici dell’UNESCO: garantire un’istruzione di qualità inclusiva ed equa, promuovere opportunità di apprendimento permanente e costruire società inclusive, giuste e pacifiche, promuovendo al contempo la libertà di espressione, la diversità culturale e l’educazione alla cittadinanza globale.
I partecipanti hanno avuto l’opportunità di discutere temi legati alla cittadinanza globale, tra cui Educazione alla Pace, Sostenibilità e Cittadinanza Globale.
Durante la sessione, la prof.ssa Fasanelli ha mostrato a studenti e docenti il sito ufficiale di Ages of Globalization, regolarmente utilizzato per l’Educazione Civica in diverse classi della scuola, e in particolare il video del Prof. Jeffrey Sachs intitolato “Class 6 Chapter 5 – Finding Peace and Cooperation in a Deeply Divided World” . Le riflessioni degli studenti sul video hanno portato a un’attività in gruppi internazionali chiamata “Our Common Rights – Our Common Voice”, durante la quale gli studenti hanno creato un Human Rights Statement comune, iniziando con: “As young people from Finland and Italy, we believe that…”, sul quale i vari gruppi hanno poi collaborato e discusso.
Questa attività istituzionale, proposta dalla scuola nell’ambito dell’orientamento educativo, ha permesso agli studenti di approfondire la comprensione dell’istruzione come strumento per la pace, la sostenibilità e la cittadinanza globale; di esercitare le competenze comunicative in lingua straniera e relazionali in contesti multiculturali; di sviluppare autonomia, responsabilità e pensiero critico, riflettendo sui valori condivisi dell’Agenda 2030; e di acquisire consapevolezza sulle proprie aspirazioni riguardo a percorsi di studio e carriere legate alla cooperazione internazionale, ai diritti umani e alla sostenibilità. La lingua di lavoro dell’attività è stata l’inglese.
