E+ LTM experiences in Coburg and Bordeaux: students’ dissemination events

This year, four of our students spent an extended period abroad, two in Coburg, Germany, and two in Bordeaux, France, as part of the school’s Erasmus+ programme.
Once back, the four of them gave a full report to their classmates in a dissemination event that was interesting for all students and was followed by a question & answer session.
The Erasmus+ students highlighted how upon their arrival, they were faced with the challenge of adapting to environments that were initially unfamiliar. New languages, different daily routines, and cultural habits required openness, flexibility, and determination. Despite the inevitable difficulties that accompany such a significant change, they demonstrated remarkable resilience and a willingness to embrace new experiences, gradually becoming fully integrated into their host communities.
They also underlined that a fundamental aspect of their mobility experience was the time spent with their host families. Through daily interactions, they were able to gain a genuine understanding of local customs, traditions, and ways of life. The warm welcome and support provided by their host families played a crucial role in helping them feel at home and navigate the challenges of living abroad.
Equally important was their experience within the host schools. Entering a different educational system required adaptability and a proactive attitude. Teaching methods, classroom dynamics, assessment procedures, and school routines often differed from those to which they were used to. Nevertheless, students approached these differences with curiosity and commitment, successfully integrating into their new academic environments and establishing positive relationships with teachers and fellow students. Through collaboration and daily interaction, they developed a greater appreciation for diverse educational approaches and perspectives.
Living in Coburg and Bordeaux also offered valuable opportunities to discover local traditions, cultural heritage, and community life. By participating in school activities, family events, and local celebrations, the students gained first-hand insight into the history, customs, and values of their host countries. These experiences allowed them to develop a deeper understanding of European cultural diversity.
The impact of this long-term mobility experience extends far beyond academic achievement. Throughout their stay abroad, both students demonstrated significant personal growth, developing greater independence, self-confidence, and a stronger sense of responsibility. Managing daily life in a foreign environment required them to make decisions autonomously, overcome challenges, and adapt to new situations with maturity and resourcefulness.
Furthermore, the experience contributed substantially to their educational development. Exposure to different languages, teaching methods, and cultural contexts enhanced their communication skills, intercultural competence, and global awareness. At the same time, living and studying abroad strengthened essential life skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, empathy, and resilience.
Their journey to Coburg and Bordeaux stands as an inspiring example of how international mobility can foster not only academic enrichment but also profound human and personal development. The experience has equipped them with valuable competencies and perspectives that will undoubtedly benefit them in their future educational and professional paths.
